Jens is an innovator and scientist with more than 23 years’ experience in radical innovation. He is the inventor of 36 (and counting) patent families and has successfully spearheaded product development in industries including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, solar power, 3D printing and information displays. At DSM he fulfilled the role the global lead biomedical scientist (Senior Science Fellow) from 2017-2023. Jens also has strong commercial experience as a former business development manager and has negotiated complex IP license and supply agreements.
Jens received his PhD from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh in 1998 for his research into chiral liquid crystalline polymers. Subsequently he undertook post-doctoral positions at DSM Research (Netherlands) and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) on recombinant protein engineering. He joined DSM in 2001 where he initiated and lead several radical innovations including DSM’s Advanced Solar Business Unit (divested to Covestro) and DSM Biomedical’s TheraPEA™ Drug Delivery platform. Jens also holds an Executive master’s in business Innovation from TIAS Business School (2010).
